Cheerful Helpers Child and Family Study Center is a landmark program that has been in the forefront of early intervention in Los Angeles for fifty years. Over time we have learned to recognize the difference between fleeting symptoms and the stumbling blocks toward developmental and educational progress. The critical period for intervention is now. We have a professional team available to help create the best plan for each child’s unique needs.
These are some red flags that suggest development may be off track.
Any marked, prolonged or dramatic change in:
• Behavior
• Socialization
• Communication
• Mood
• Energy level
Inability to:
• Self-regulate
• Be spontaneous, curious and explore
• Use toys or join others to play
• Smile or show pride of accomplishment
• Establish self-help skills
• Manage routines, changes and transitions
Problem areas and/or delays:
• Sleep problems
• Speech & Language
• Toileting issues
• Social-Emotional relationships
• Attachment or separation issues
• Difficulty being soothed
• Sensory motor-planning
• Preservative or restricted play
• Self-injurious behaviors
• Limited attention span/hyper-focus
Extremes of:
• Ritualistic behavior
• Preoccupation with fantasy
• Unusual eating habits
• Antagonism toward siblings or peers
• Angry resistance to suggestions
• Intense or frequent tantrums
• Excitation and/or aggression
• Overly cautious or recklessness
• Poor sense of cause and effect
• Overly controlling or overly compliant
